The Stoneman Way
The Stoneman Way is more than a set of expectations, it is how we learn, grow, and continuously improve together.
At Stoneman, we believe that learning is a cycle. We try new things, reflect on what worked and what didn't, listen to one another, and make improvements. Whether you're a scholar, family member, or staff member, everyone has opportunities to learn, grow, and help make our school even better.
This cycle of learning, reflecting, and improving guides everything we do, from our classrooms and relationships to our school traditions and community partnerships. We know that mistakes are a natural part of learning, and we encourage one another to approach challenges with curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to grow.
The pages below highlight what "The Stoneman Way" looks like in action. Together, we are building a school where every voice matters, every person belongs, and every day is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and make tomorrow even better.
Relationships first
Relationships first
Relationships first
At Stoneman, we believe that meaningful learning begins with meaningful relationships. Before scholars can thrive academically, they need to know they are seen, valued, supported, and cared for.
We intentionally build strong relationships between scholars, families, and staff because we know that trust creates a sense of belonging and helps every scholar feel safe enough to learn, grow, and take healthy risks. We take time to get to know our scholars as individuals—their strengths, interests, cultures, and goals—so they feel connected to our school community.
Relationships don't mean lowering expectations. They mean supporting scholars with compassion while helping them learn, grow, and be accountable for their choices. We recognize that every child is still learning, and when mistakes happen, we work together to reflect, repair, and move forward.
Just as we encourage our scholars to communicate directly and respectfully when challenges arise, we ask our families to do the same. If you have a questionor concern involving a staff member, we encourage you to reach out to them first. Many concerns can be resolved through an open conversation, allowing everyone to better understand one another, work together to find solutions, and strengthen the partnership between home and school. If additional support is needed, our administration is always here to help.
By putting Relationships First, we create a caring school community where everyone belongs, every voice matters, and every Dolphin has the opportunity to succeed.
Belonging
Belonging
Belonging
At Stoneman, we believe every scholar and family deserves to feel like they belong. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive school community where everyone is treated with kindness, dignity, and respect.
We celebrate the unique backgrounds, cultures, languages, identities, abilities, interests, and experiences that make our school community special. These differences strengthen our community and provide opportunities for all of us to learn from one another.
Belonging means more than simply being present—it means feeling seen, heard, valued, and included. We intentionally create opportunities for scholars and families to share their voices, build meaningful relationships, and actively participate in our school community. Through classroom communities, family events, leadership opportunities, restorative practices, and everyday interactions, we strive to ensure everyone feels connected.
We also recognize that creating an inclusive community is an ongoing journey. We continue learning, listening, and growing together so every scholar has the support, encouragement, and opportunities they need to thrive.
When every person feels they belong, our entire Stoneman community grows stronger.
Scholar Voice

Scholar Voice
Our scholars are experts in their own experiences. Their ideas, perspectives, and feedback help us better understand what is working well and where we can continue to grow.
We intentionally create opportunities for scholars to share their voices in meaningful ways. Through classroom discussions, leadership opportunities, surveys, empathy interviews, and everyday conversations, we listen to what matters most to our scholars and use their feedback to help shape school decisions, programs, and priorities.
Scholar voice also means giving students opportunities to make choices, solve problems, work collaboratively, and take on leadership roles. By encouraging scholars to share their ideas and advocate for themselves and others, we help them build confidence, responsibility, and a sense of ownership in their school community.
Most importantly, we want every scholar to know that their voice matters. Whether sharing a new idea, celebrating something they love, or identifying a challenge, every voice helps make Stoneman a stronger, more welcoming place for everyone.

Positive school culture
At Stoneman, we believe that a positive school culture helps every scholar thrive. We intentionally create a school environment where scholars feel safe, supported, challenged, and excited to learn each day.
A positive school culture is built through strong relationships, clear expectations, meaningful learning, and celebrating the successes of our scholars. We explicitly teach what it means to Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible, while recognizing and celebrating the positive choices our scholars make every day.
We also believe that mistakes are a natural part of learning and growing. When challenges arise, we focus on teaching, reflecting, restoring relationships, and helping scholars develop the skills they need to make positive choices in the future.
Creating a positive school culture is a shared responsibility. Our scholars, families, staff, and community partners all play an important role in making Stoneman a place where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to succeed.
From classroom celebrations and schoolwide traditions to leadership opportunities and family events, we work together to create a school community where every Dolphin feels connected, supported, and proud to belong.
